Question NSW or QLD with family?

Not sure where to put this one.

We have always zoomed in on Queensland, assumed it's nicer for families and more likely to have what we are looking for. We assumed that property prices anywhere in NSW would be way out of our league, but with the latest developments everything is out of our league anyway and we would probably start renting for a longer time (and rent out our house in the UK) before
buying a house.
We keep looking for jobs to get an idea of income and availabilities, and it seems that there is more around Sydney than Brisbane. Ian is managing a timber yard over here and would love to do the same over there (not necessarily managing, we don't expect to find manager positions that easily) and I will be a social worker.

I know this is a long shot and research-wise I'll be basically starting from scratch now again, but can I have your initial thoughts? Anyone of you lives in areas within 1,5hr driving distance to Sydney maybe and finds the area especially nice and child-friendly?

To compare, so far we looked mainly at Redcliffe, Scarborough, Pacific Pines and Robina in Queensland. Simply because those areas all look nice and when searching the net we read mostly about positive experiences. No personal experience whatsoever, we only did the backpacker thing in Oz years back and I stayed most of the time in Sydney (which we loved).

Ok, any comments? Anyone very very happy where they are? Or extremely positive/negative about the job situation for social workers and timber yard people either near Sydney or Brisbane?

Thanks for your help!

Good question IAM

Personally I have no exp. of Nsw or any other state for that matter.

Far as Timber Yards go, there are shit loads all down the east coast, and many follow the FSC codes of conduct your old fella will be aware of.

The issue you will find, is geography, based on the suburbs you have given, all are in built up suburban / coastal areas, where little or no major lumber yards operate.

Get onto the western side of the highway and your opportunities/affordability suddenly open up.

Largest Lumber yard near me, is Narangba Timbers , Narangba Timbers Pty Ltd

If you want us to get you a list of timber companies, happily help out ( cant help with NSW or your line of Social work tho ) sorry

Ste

Hello Ste, have been offline for a few days, thanks for your reply. And yes, could you please suggest a few more companies? Absolutely no rush if you're busy.
We're reconsidering our timeplan (WOHOOOO ), ie might go a wee bit earlier than originally planned and thought that contacting some yards directly about work opportunities could be helpful.
Thanks for everything, we really appreciate it!
