When I first arrived, it was the Jacaranda trees and their blossom that caught my eye, that would be a good choice for shade in summer and light through winter, just concerned about the size they grow too, need to look up Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow?
Is the butterfly tree a Buddlia?

The gardening will have to wait for a few more days as the weather folks predict a 30 degrees scorcher this weekend, so its in the pool to be kewl.

Yesterday Today Tomorrow, the scent is gorgeous, they can be trained ( bit unwieldy ) or left as bushes.

Butterfly Bush ( dont know latin name )

Bottle Brush ( great for attracting Lorikeets )

night scented jasmin is another easy one

we bought a couple of small plants last yr from bunnings for
about 10 bucks each now there about a metre high ( almost fully grown ) and the purfume in the evening and early morning is stunning, i`m going to get some more and plant these nearer to the deck

I wish I could help you Rich, as I love gardening, it's my therapy. But, gardening in WA is a world away from gardening in Queensland. I would advise that you buy a local gardening magazine, they have some wonderful ideas in the one I buy here in Perth. Are you near Toowoomba? There's a flower festival there this weekend. I also found this...Gardening in Brisbane & Queensland (Qld)

Thanks Gill and to all green fingered YoBros who replied.

The great thing about all this is its all new plants and I just don't want to make too many mistakes.

It does makes sense to use natives and we will visit as many garden centres including the ones mentioned. Close by we have a nursery and the lovely Lianne their will be able to pop over and help with our plans...first things first, get the top soil etc, hire a Dingo and turn it over.

And Bunnings to get a wheelbarrow, spade and fork, gloves, conveyor belt, teddy bear.....

You forgot the set of saucepans.....

I used to be green fingered, but not so much now. It's really hard keeping anything healthy living near the ocean and having such strong winds here. We realised, after a great deal of time and money spent, that we couldn't have the hanging baskets we used to love making up back home as the wind and heat just killed them off, no matter how much feed and water we gave them. Our Hibiscus and Magnolia have been a success, but only in pots, as then we can move them under the porch and pergola when the heat sets in.
