i like gawler - the town centre has a lot of original buildings and it is sort of feels a bit olde worlde which i like (mind you the main road through the middle is very busy!)

and how long would it take me to drive from gawler to cbd? - is the expressway this weird 2way system too?

you are thinking of glenelg tho it is always going to be a bit touristy if you live at the seaside (says the girl from Whitley Bay!)

trouble is if you live somewhere with a bit of character (like gawler) you are going to pay a bit more for your house

Gawler is like a little mini town all of it's own, you wouldn't really go into the CBD that much from there and if you did it would be better by train - which would take about 60 mins. Driving would take a good hour and half at the minute - don't know about when the express way opens. It's 42.5 kms away (about 25.5 miles ) not something you want to be doing often if you can help it.

Think of Gawler as being that little countryside town just outside the major UK city - house prices are higher just like they are there. When we were looking they were around $350k as opposed to $250k here in Para Hills - big difference when you need a 95% mortgage at nearly 10% interest.

The roughness of Salisbury and the area's around it really depend on what you call rough. For me, they are nowhere near as rough as where I grew up. There are pockets of rough streets and then there are nicer ones, but I feel safer walking around here at night than I ever would walking around Bradford (Maybe not a good comparison! )

Really it all boils down to what you can afford, obviously you go for the best you can but don't discount anywhere until you have been here a while and looked around a little - don't rush into buying until you know what you want and where you want to be and you'll be just fine.

Brighton is really lovely and would probably have been our first choice - but housing is VERY expensive and rentals are hard to come by (we applied for one that had 10+ other people apply for too!)




para hills is only 5 mins from wynn vale anyway - plus you will be neighbours with wendy (was going to make a sarky comment but she would tell me off )

i think the northern expressway it due for completion 2011/12? so still quite a long way off.
it should take a good chunk off the travel time tho and assuming it runs the same as the southern expressway it will be one way in the morning and the other in the afternoon. My problem with the southern expressway is there are not enough access/exits so the chances are you probably going to have to do a detour to get on - pain in the neck if you ask me!

It also probably mean that house prices will go up in gawler when it finally opens as more people see living up there and travelling into the city a more viable option.
