    Minors flying international unaccompanied

Does anyone know the rules of children (age 10) flying from the UK to an international destination unaccompanied?

My sister is splitting up from her husband - he hit my neice who is not his daughter and who has her arm and leg in plaster (he didn't do that) yesterday and all hell has broken loose , over the past couple of months he has hit my sister too. She has 2 babies under 2 and no job but I know that she will be okay..

My neice's dad has her at the moment and the police are involved - they have asked my sis to stay until Monday when they can take a statement from her.

My neices dad runs a really busy pub in Kensington and rather than her spend the school holidays there I was thinking of having her come over and spend them with us... I will love to see her and she will have a bit of fun which will do her good.

I was thinking that I could go and meet her wherever she connects e.g. singapore, thailand but can't find the info I need online.

Once I speak to my sister and he ex-husband I can start to make arrangements and make some calls but before I get Charlie's hopes up I want to know if it will be possible.

    Thanks

    Lau xxx

Oh no Lau, what bad news. Hope your sister is OK.

I honestly don't know the answer, but have a feeling that nowadays kids have to be 12 to fly unaccompanied. BUT I could be completely wrong. Nickywes would probably know.

Hope you can find an answer :fingers crossed:

    Re: Minors flying international unaccompanied

My sister use to send her daughter to State from age of 7 on her own to visit her dad, she use to tell the airline that she is on her own, this is what use to happened, she would check her baggage in, then walked her to the entrance of the custom an air stewards use to come & collect her & stay with her right through the flight until she was handed over to her father & the same use to happen to her on her flight back to UK, she absolutely loved it as she was so well looked after.
I think the ticket was more expensive, it was just so long ago, and she’s 21 now.

Sorry about your BIL lau, you did say he was a no gooder, dont forget if she can fly to you on her own, she needs to get a visa to come to australia for her holiday.

I imagine it varies from airline to airline. Virgin Atlantic for example will fly children solo from age 5 to 15 Virgin Atlantic Airways - Popup

Emirates send them as unaccompanied minors until 12. Pay an adult fare and they have someone with them all the time. When they stop to change planes etc they go to the emirates first class lounge. Haven't used them but know peeps who have. You would need to check mind you re plaster cast and travelling. May need to get back slab or something. Expansion and all that.

    Re: Minors flying international unaccompanied

give qantas a call, I know they used to have 'assisted' travel for unaccompanied minors. They have their own lounge in the airport where you drop them off (heathrow) and then you sign for them at the destination airport. They sit at the back of the plane with the stewardesses and are generally kept an eye on. At the inbetween airport they stay with the stewardess. 5 years ago I did this with my son and the group he travelled with ranged in age from about 7 through to 15 and they only charged 25quid (cant remember if this was each way or both) I sincerely hope everything works out for you and they still operate this service.
